When the G&L CLF Research Doheny V12 Pharaoh Gold was introduced, it was expected to incorporate Leo’s modern features. However, the true revelation came from the astonishing versatility of its MFD™ single-coil pickups, capable of producing delicate jangles and thick, gritty tones. Crafted by Johnny McLaren with the spirit of Leo’s CLF Research work, these pickups are a testament to meticulous attention to detail.
Taking inspiration from Leo’s late ’70s to early ’80s development of MFD guitar humbuckers, the CLF Research Doheny V12 pushes the boundaries even further. Dave and Johnny McLaren, armed with decades of expertise and access to Leo’s technical work, set out to create the most musical MFD humbuckers ever seen at Fender Avenue. Their goal was to fulfill Leo’s vision of humbuckers that excel in series-humbucking, parallel-humbucking, and single-coil modes, offering power, articulation, and adaptability across various musical contexts. It’s an endeavor that would surely bring a smile to Leo’s face.
Leo believed in empowering musicians with greater control over their instruments, particularly in coil control. This belief is reflected in the Doheny V12’s individual 3-way mini toggle switches, color-coded with classic CLF switch tips (white for the neck pickup and red for the bridge pickup). The period styling continues with the iconic CLF black crinkle powder-coating on the aluminum control plate/pickguard, complemented by finely machined and chrome-plated CLF knobs for volume, treble, and bass. The Dual Fulcrum Vibrato features a CLF 3/16″ machined stainless steel vibrato arm, combining a vintage aesthetic with modern performance thanks to forged brass saddles and block. The result is a visually stunning instrument that embodies the bold and pioneering spirit of the offset design.
Experience the timeless elegance and groundbreaking innovation of the G&L CLF Research Doheny V12 in Pharaoh Gold. Its exceptional craftsmanship, stunning aesthetics, and unrivaled versatility make it an offset guitar for the ages.
