You see, the G&L JB•2 is all about refinement, blending “holy grail” Alnico single-coil tone with modern Leo Fender† improvements. The JB•2’s classic Alnico V pickups have tone reminiscent of the best examples from the early ‘60s, thanks to the work of Paul Gagon, G&L VP Engineering.

Gagon found his inspiration reviewing original prints stored in Leo Fender’s private laboratory at G&L, but that was just the start. About 30 years ago, Gagon was an R&D; engineer at another company when he was tasked with finding out what was so special about the early bolt-on basses many players raved about. Gagon tirelessly analyzed many examples of what were considered holy grail basses, spending time out on the shop floor talking to builders still working in the pickup department since the ‘50s, all on a quest to discover where the real mojo was – and wasn’t. What he learned from the builders matched his own engineering analysis.

You see, back in the day, the actual spec of pickups coming down that old production line varied considerably. That meant coming up with the right specs was more challenging than simply following the prints, and Gagon’s persistence paid off as the JB-2 serves up delicious, classic tone. While the pickups are the origin of the tone, the JB•2 will surprise you with a clarity and sustain unmatched by old basses with their rudimentary bridge design.

Subtly modernized vintage bass

The G&L Tribute JB-2 MN 3-Tone Sunburst E-Bass is based on a subtly refined vintage design that combines comfortable playing characteristics with a characterful and multi-faceted sound for almost any genre. While the offset body and the “Medium C” maple neck create the best conditions for agile grooving, G&L Alnico Single Coils and a classic passive electronics provide varied timbres between massive low-end emphasis and wiry assertiveness. naturally complete the extremely massive G&L Saddle-Lock Bridge and classic open-back tuners the Tribute JB-2 Bass by G&L.

Traditionally built and comfortable electric bass.

The carefully modernized retro design of the G&L JB-2 promises high playability and a lively sound. Featuring a slightly offset waist, the poplar body not only impresses with perfect balance on the strap and thigh, but also carries a beautiful ash veneer for that elegant look. The bolt-on maple neck conveys extremely agile playing characteristics with its slim “Modern C” profile and 38 mm nut width, so that any Bassline can be implemented with ease on the 21-fret maple fingerboard.

Flexible sound

At the bass amp, the Tribute JB-2 from G&L presents itself as an absolute all-rounder that has the right sound ready for almost every genre. Responsible for this are two G&L Alnico single coils in bridge and middle position, whose signals can be freely mixed via separate volume controls, so that a wide sound spectrum is available, from abysmal low-end punch to wiry presence tone. In addition, the bass guitar is equipped with a classic treble trim.

High-quality hardware equipment

Last but not least, G&L equips the JB-2 MN 3-Tone Sunburst with high-quality and optimally tuned Bass Hardware . The G&L Saddle-Lock Bridge turns out to be a decisive component for the first-class sound of the four-stringer, which ensures unhindered sound development with lockable string riders. The precise adjustability also guarantees clean intonation and comfortably playable string action. At the headstock, traditional open-back tun ers with open gears also ensure accurate and robust tuning of the G&L Tribute JB-2 MN 3-Tone Sunburst.
